Essays apa format

Although published articles differ in format from manuscripts submitted for publication or student papers (e.g., different line spacing, font, margins, and column format), articles published in APA journals provide excellent demonstrations of APA Style in action. APA journals began publishing papers in seventh edition APA Style in 2020.

If you are writing or publishing an APA Style paper in another context (e.g., for a dissertation), check with your instructor or publisher for additional formatting guidelines. The following two sample papers were published in annotated format in the Publication Manual and are reproduced here for your ease of reference.

General APA Guidelines. Your essay should be typed and double-spaced on standard-sized paper (8.5" x 11"), with 1" margins on all sides. You should use a clear font that is highly readable. APA recommends using 12 pt. Times New Roman font. Include a page header (also known as the "running head") at the top of every page.

The title of your paper should be concise and clearly describe what your paper is about. Your title can extend to two lines, but it should be no longer than 12 words. An abstract, or brief summary of your paper that immediately follows your title page, is not required for student papers, according to APA style.
